Freewheeling

We've almost got everything together for the application, just some minor details missing, and I think we'll be able to send it off early next week. We're heading to Stratford for the weekend, which will be awesome. Great to get out of Toronto for a little while, even if it means we'll be missing the biggest art festival of the year, nuit blanche.. It's 12 hours of art madness, but I guess I'll get to experience it next year!

So here's a funny story for you: I bought a bike on Sunday, a nice and functional mountain bike for 85 dollars. I kept it in the apartment for a couple of nights and then I bought a bike lock and left it outside the building for the night. The next morning my front wheel is gone and I am pissed off. I imagine beating the thief over the head with a wrench. Today I got a new tire and it's more expensive than the damn bike was - 98 dollars for tire, tube and wheel! More than my bike itself that is. At least the people at the bike shop were nice enough not to charge for the service cause it was stolen. Toronto's awful for bikes, Chris' bike was stolen while we were in Vancouver, and I'm for sure never leaving mine out again. It gets to block our very narrow hallway instead. It pays to have a bike though cause they're hiking up the TTC prices again, to 105 $ a month. So the wheel will have been worth it in about a month..

In other news, check out this roadblock organized by the cab drivers on strike. A lot of honking and pissed off people going north-south, but I guess it gives the cops something to do...

Boredom

I'm so booored. Today I've been mostly translating, trying to get everything done before the weekend. I also went to a fitness class, which was level not-hard-at-all, but at least I've seen some people today.. It's been raining for a few hours so I haven't even felt like stepping outside. I feel as though my brain is deteriorating, perhaps shrinking, as my idleness grows. Aaaaah. I wish we could get these immigration papers ready already, so I'd feel I'm at least working towards a set date when something would happen. This feels like draining my bank account with no goal in sight.

September

Oh dear already September and it's still hot so hot! Over 30 degrees and so humid! I'm dying! So much has happened yet nothing very substantial. We got a Wii and of course that is fun, and we have got towels and kitchen stuff and it is starting to feel like home here.

The picture is from Nathan Phillips Square, the building on the left is City Hall, which was designed by Finnish architect Viljo Revell.
