Finland, Finland, Finland...

The country where I want to be,
Pony trekking or camping,
Or just watching TV.
Finland, Finland, Finland.
It's the country for me.

Hmm. I must say I have to disagree with Monty Python this time. I am in Finland, but I would much rather be in Vancouver! It's good to see family again, and I look forward to seeing my friends in the coming weeks, but I am already feeling restless and bored, and I need to find something to do while here. I do hope I get one of the jobs I have applied for..

My computer is crazy and overheats. I need to find a repair place. And the receipt.

So I got home yesterday, 15.00 Finnish time, and about 8 am in my head. I stayed awake til 19 and then slept for about 10 hours, and now I already feel fine. I guess this jetlag really won't be too bad. Today I went to see my sister's new apartment, and we played Halo for a few hours.. Oh and we also went to an art exhibit this morning, but it really wasn't good. It made us laugh though, so I guess we got something for our money.

So I suppose I should change the title of this blog, or start a new one, or perhaps stop writing? We shall see how it goes. Right now I just want to find something to do. Besides missing Chris.

Decision made!

I got an e-mail from my father today. Good news! London has already approved me for permanent residency!!!! It took one month and three weeks.. I would never have thought it would go so fast! Imagine.. If I hadn't been told to send the application to the wrong address, it might already have been done two weeks ago. But this timing is just perfect! I can go home in peace, send my passport to the UK, pack up, and enjoy my time with my family, knowing I will be back with Chris soon.

We went out for a bit of a walk yesterday, but soon realized it was hopeless.. It was -18 and extremely windy, and we could only be outside for about five minutes before it felt like our faces were going to fall off. It's a bit nicer today, but the wind is a killer. I really won't miss winter here.

We have now sold: couch, guitar, bass, dresser, cd-tower, bedside table and bike. It was quite funny: the girl who ended up buying my bike was Finnish! We spent 15 minutes chatting about Toronto and Finland, and she was very nice. Funny how the only person who actually kept their word about wanting the bike was from my home country.. I have also been contacting antique stores today that might be interested in my dresser, so I hope they will get back to me tomorrow and come pick it up. We have five large boxes in the apartment, which we will be sending off via Greyhound this week, and I promised an Irish guy our glasses and plates for free if he picks them up on Friday. Phew! Almost done. The place looks deserted, and there is nowhere to sit.

Four days left in Toronto.

A week and a half and a day and a half to go...

It's Sunday night. Chris went to sleep because he has to get up for work at 4.15am. It's insane. We are trying to get rid of our furniture and have so far sold the coffee table, Chris' dresser, and his cd-tower. We still have a long way to go, and I wish someone would buy my bike already. One guy who was interested in Chris' futon was supposed to come over and look at it today but he never showed up.

Other than the the trying to get our apartment empty, there's really not too much going on. We've been watching the Danish series Riget now for the past two days, and it's really good, but not half as scary as I remember it being from when I saw it as a child. I bought a ticket to go back to Finland, and Chris has his for Vancouver. I'm leaving the night of the 25th, and he takes off early on the 26th. It's going to be awful. It just hit me today how little time we have left here. Toronto is a nice place, it's been very good to us, and it's nice to always know which way South is, but I think we'll like it better back on the west coast. It will just be so horrible to say farewell again for such a long time, and I really hope London will be quick with the processing of my file.

It's raining again... I'm going to bed.

Back!

So we've been back in Toronto for about four days now, and it's the same old same old here. It felt quite nice to land here, like we were back home, but man BC is so much more beautiful and laid back. A little too laid back, as it took about ten minutes to get a coffee at Starbucks. :)

I'm still slightly sick, but I don't feel bad anymore. My throat had a bit of sandpaper in it this morning, and unfortunately Chris said he also felt like he was coming down with a cold. Then we went out for lunch, which consisted of way too many french fries, then we fell asleep for half an hour, and now I finished my work and we're going to watch the Mighty Boosh.

So Vancouver and Harrison were great, we had a lot of fun, but the whole trip was a bit clouded by my illness. I will be out of here in three weeks and hopefully back in Vancouver in April, at the latest!
